From Silos to Sovereignty: A Municipality's Path to Unified GIS with JMap Cloud

Jean-Robert Desbiens-Haddad, CTO, K2 Geospatial

Date: Thursday, April 30th, 2026 - 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

Municipal geospatial data often lives in disconnected systems across departments: public works in one tool, planning in another, environment in a third. The result is duplicated effort, inconsistent information, and decisions made without a complete picture of the territory.

This webinar follows the journey of a Canadian municipality that moved from fragmented data silos to a unified, sovereign geospatial platform. Jean-Robert Desbiens-Haddad, CTO at K2 Geospatial, will walk through the technical and organizational steps involved in consolidating multiple data sources into a single environment while preserving each department's workflows and tools.

The session will cover practical decisions that shaped the project: connecting ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and QGIS into one platform without replacing existing investments, ensuring data residency under Canadian jurisdiction, and maintaining predictable costs through a flat subscription model with no credit-based consumption.

Attendees will see how JMap Cloud served as the unifying layer, bringing together spatial data produced across different systems into a shared, real-time view of the territory accessible to both technical and non-technical users.

The presentation will also address broader questions that municipalities face when modernizing their geospatial infrastructure: what does true data portability look like, how to evaluate deployment options across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments, and why interoperability through standards-based APIs matters for long-term institutional independence.

Whether you are managing a GIS transition, evaluating new platforms, or looking to consolidate data that currently sits in multiple systems, this session offers a concrete, experience-based perspective on how to move forward without compromising governance or control.

This webinar is designed for GIS professionals, IT managers, municipal decision-makers, and anyone responsible for aligning geospatial technology with institutional accountability.
