BeSpatial Northern Webinar -  Source Water Protection Program

Many conservation authorities core business is flood reduction, and up until the mid 2000’s  Conservation Authorities, for the most part,  were reliant on out dated data and  hard copy mapping from the Ministry of Natural Resources or municipalities. The implementation of the Source Water Protection Program, a capacity building project  for the conservation authorities, increased the analytical capacity  for  flood reduction and warning. Join Marlene McKinnon to explore how software, hardware and stakeholder expectations are driving change in flood reduction analysis.

Speaker Profile:

Marlene has broad knowledge of information management ranging from gaming systems, technical customer service and the geographic information system sector.  As the GIS Specialist of the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority (SSMRCA), a member for the for the Northern Ontario conservations authorities, for  past sixteen years she has participated in provincial working groups developing databases for the collection of Source Water Protection data during the development of the program.  Marlene was a member of the provincial symbology working group to provide a consistent image of the Source Water Protection mapping for the reports required.  She is a member of the Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology GIS Advisory Committee.  Currently she is a Certified Geomatics Specialist GIS/LIS (CGS) from the Canadian Institute of Geomatics and President of the organization which was first organized in 1882.  During her work at Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre, she was working on the Township of Michipicoten Municipal Groundwater Study when Map 5 Quaternary Geology was selected from Canadian submissions for the ESRI Map Gallery 2004 and then selected from international submissions for the ESRI Map Book Vol. 19, published in July 2004.
